The village of Sneaton lies on the south side of the lower Esk Valley, within the North York Moors National Park, well known for its attractive scenery and walking.
Amenities within the village include a village hall and a church. Beacon Farm, famous for its ice cream parlour, has tearooms and a farm shop. The Wilson Arms, a free house serves real ales including Black Sheep and uses locally sourced produce to create tasty and filling dishes.
The historic old fishing port of Whitby, lying 3 miles to the north, boasts an excellent selection of restaurants and shops, marina and golf course. The famous Whitby Abbey dominates the skyline and can be reached from the old town by 199 steps.
The Heritage Coastline lies nearby with villages such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Sandsend having popular beaches.
Take the opportunity to travel on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Pickering – a busy market town, Goathland village – perhaps better known as Aidensfield in YTV’s Heartbeat, Levisham – with its beautiful forest walks, Grosmont – a genuine 1950s railway junction with station cafe and on many days throughout the year, journey onwards towards the historic port of Whitby.
Walks in the Esk Valley alow you to see this wonderful corner of North Yorkshire with it’s magical moorland, delightful dales and spectacular coastline.
Sneaton Forest has picnic areas and walks from May Beck to Falling Foss and dowstream towards Littlebeck, set in a very picuresque valley, ideal for wildlife watching.
Falling Foss Tea Garden at Midge Hall offers the perfect place to relax and unwind, enjoy a light lunch, a sumptous cream tea or perhaps just an ice cream in the woodland at the top of the magnificent Falling Foss waterfall.
